How to Get 1,000 Visitors Per Day – Six Figure Challenge Update

Today I have a quick update on my Six Figure Website Challenge website and the results over the last month. Would I hit the 1,000 visitors per day milestone?…

As I mentioned in my last update Mid Year Six Figure Challenge Update I was going to reduce my team working on the site and continue only what I thought were the critical activities…

  1. Consistently publishing quality content
  2. Building quality links via a relevant PBN and using my 301 building block strategy

  • How has that reduced scope impacted the sites growth?
  • What do I believe are the key findings?
  • What is my plan moving forward?

Current Strategy

  1. Publish HIGH quality content (2 Posts Per Week)
  • Content has been the engine of this project and having a couple great writers churning out
  1. 301 Building Block & Relevant PBN Strategy (using powerful expired domains)

Here is a summary of a few changes since I launched this strategy for me…

  1. No More Project Manager, graphic designer, promoter, research VA
  2. Cut Cost of Article Published from

Basically I have not refilled any of the positions that fell off and have narrowed my focus to only the 2 key strategies.

Is there more I could be doing…

Absolutely! I hope to do many more things in the future to push the results but for now I am happy letting this site continue to build momentum. When the time is right to re-build the promotion team and put more of my time into making sure the higher level promotion is done right I will!

Results – 1,000 Visitors Per Day

The site is continuing its growth rate with organic traffic and as of this month including the value of the site is now positive (earned – expenses + value of site > total expenses).

This month I hit the 1,000 visitor per day mark and the growth rate seems to be continuing.

Monetization is still a challenge and not where I would like it to be yet!

Overall I was able to cut cost per published article from $26 to $12 and quality stayed high.

 1000 visitors per day

  • Quality content will always important and must be the basis for any project… adding value will eventually be the only thing that matters!
  • Quality vs Quantity is proving to be effective in terms of backlinks. Using both a relevant PBN and some 301 building blocks the site continues to respond well in Google

It has only been 1 month since my last update and the strategy change but I like what I am seeing so far.

Although I am running out of time to really dig in and hit my 6 figure sales figure for the site this year I am happy that again I am able to show that consistent content + quality links can generate traffic predictably.

For those of you that joined me in building an Authority Site at the start of this year how is your site progressing?

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Sure social might help… Press releases can be good….

But at the end of the day, high quality content and powerful, authoritative links win everytime.

Kudos on your success!

    Jon says August 31, 2015

Thanks Quinton… we collectively always like to complicate things but in reality it does seem to boil down to only a handful of strategies that drive the majority of the results.

Nice that your site value is positive now! Since you don’t think you’ll hit the six figure mark, do you have a revised income goal?

    Jon says August 31, 2015

My goal is still six figure sale price for the site but the reality is the probability I will hit it has been reduced. I don’t have an updated goal.

Theodore Nwangene says August 31, 2015

That’s a good news Jon.
Hitting 1000 visitors per day is no child play and I’m happy for that. If you continue like that, you will soon be reaching your goal.

I agree with you that quality outweighs quantity hugely when it comes to blog contents so, we should always have that in mind while paying for writers.

Its also good that you’ve reduced your expenses on the site. Good luck

    Jon says August 31, 2015

Thanks, yah dropping the price per article has been a big deal for the profitability of the site.

Hey Jon,

Awesome progress my man!

I have been a longtime reader of your site for some reason I finally took a good look at those 301 building blocks posts that you linked to in this article. I am glad I did!

I was literally just figuring out how to do something very similar with a site I just purchased. I am glad I stumbled across this and it was a huge help. It has given me the confidence to try this out on my own sites now and see what happens!

Thanks man,

    Jon says August 31, 2015

Glad I could help! Good luck with the strategy and if you have any questions just let me know.

Hey Jon,

Is your relevant PBN constantly growing? Like, do you have 5-10 sites and you keep adding new links to your site from there (presumably with diminishing returns), or do you keep adding new sites to the PBN?

Sometimes it’s hard to tell if someone is referring to a group of sites or a site itself when saying “PBN”!

My 6 figure site did well when I added about 10 PBN domains to the picture, but it needs more boost and I don’t know whether to just add 10 more domains, or add more links from the first 10.

    Jon says August 31, 2015

Hey Dom, my relevant PBN continues to grow. It isn’t huge but just 5 sites right now and I will increase it over time. You are right that is always a tough call…never an easy answer but just a call about how much of your promotion effort do you want to reinvest into a PBN.

Jon, really appreciate you putting this out there. Keep up the good work.

    Thanks Lane

Great progress Jon Gillham.

What’s the word count of the content you are publishing now? Optimizing content cost from 26 to 12 is a great improvement for sure.

I’m now working on a similar project, and I hope your case studies will help me.

    Jon says August 31, 2015

Hi Al, the word count is around 700.

Konrad Braun says August 31, 2015

Congrats John,
I’ve implemented the 301 strategy on a couple of my blogs and am prepping a few more domains to do an eventual 301 with down the road. Curious: How long (on average) does it usually take before you notice the 301 do it’s magic (in terms of ranking & traffic)?

Thanks to a bunch of your advice, I’ve also expanded my PBN quite a bit and have started to use them more aggressively. Same as previous question: How long (on average) does it take for a PBN to give the boost to the money site?
Loving this stuff!

    Jon says August 31, 2015

It generally takes 4 weeks to see how a site performs in Google before I do the 301 redirect but once I do the redirect the results are instant.

For a PBN I find it takes 2-4 weeks for the ranking climb to level off.

James says August 31, 2015

First of all congratz on the undeniable growth.

Second, I find the update a lil misleading because you claim 1k visits/day, but the GA screenshot shows 1k visits per week!

That’s about 142 visits/day. Could you clarify?

    Jon says August 31, 2015

Hi James, not sure what you are looking at… the image shows just shy of 7k visitors for the last week with the majority of that traffic occuring on weekdays and lower traffic on the weekend.

Can you point me to the image you are looking at and I can clarify.

    Thanks for asking the question.

Hi Jon,

Brilliant website.. However, was confused after reading the article at the following link too:

Do you really think growing PBN now would be a good strategy?
